Topiary Trees Involves in Bay Trees Growth

Many people are really fond of growing bay trees in their garden as part of the outdoor space beautification project. A lot of homeowners really do spend money and time for the healthy growth of the flowering plants and trees they purchased. Although you do have the option of purchasing mature trees and planting them in your backyard, isn’t it much better when you take your time letting one little shrub grow to its full maturity?

One of the most popular plant products often purchased by homeowners and garden enthusiasts is the bay trees. Widely described as an evergreen tree or a shrub, it can undergo topiary which then results to amazing-looking trees in the garden. Researching for information on how you can grow such types of trees is essential if you are actually thinking of purchasing these plants and place them in your garden. It is vital that the homeowner or designated gardener be knowledgeable on the proper care of the trees so as to let it grow healthy.

In addition, there are actually two ways on how you can grow these trees. You can choose to let them grow in a container which you have to change when the tree grows. Through practicing topiary, you can train and shape the tree into different forms like a cone, a pyramid, a rabbit or bear, a ball, a box, or anything you want. There are topiary frames you can purchase from the market to help in the shape training.

On the other hand, if you choose to let your bay trees grow in open ground then you should pick the right type of soil and many other things as well. Just like when you grow it in a container, you can also train the tree to a particular shape using metal frames readily available to purchase. You can have it in any shape you want. You can even make your own frame as long as you use the suitable materials for making the frame and then applying it to the tree.

Bay trees also have particular needs that has to be met in order to grow healthy and in good shape.

1. The bay tree needs to be placed in an area where there’s a sunny climate. It will be able to thrive well in areas where the temperature doesn’t go further below -5°C or about 32°F. This is because the tree will not be able to survive and eventually becomes damaged if continued to be exposed in such temperature. It doesn’t do well in areas with extreme windy conditions as well because it can affect the temperature of the area. And as mentioned above, the temperature shouldn’t go below than that. If the tree is protected and placed next to buildings that emit heat to combat the windy condition then it will grow well.

 2. In addition, if you will water the tree, remember to not be over excessive because it could lead to overwatering which affects the growth of the plant. Just water regularly and advisably in small amounts so that the root of your topiary trees will be able to get enough nutrients and process food. Just like any other plants, you need to water it in small amounts especially when it’s in its growing period or growing season. But less water should be given when it’s winter.

3. Like olive trees, the bay tree needs to be planted in a free-draining soil. This is so as to combat overwatering instances because the soil can drain the excess water. It is advisable that you do not use clay soil. But if you do then the soil should be mixed with composts. This will make the condition of the tree better despite the heavy clay soil it is planted in.

4. Your bay trees would need sunlight in order to complete the photosynthesis process. It is vital that you place it in an area where it can get a lot of sunlight. If you place the bay tree in a sunny position, it will be able to convert the light energy and use it to complete photosynthesis.

5. You may need to prune your bay tree during the late spring season all throughout midsummer. However, keep in mind that even though your tree can tolerate the pruning, it can take longer to recover if you do it heavily. So make sure that if you don’t know anything about pruning then ask the experts to guide you. You will see that it’s beneficial in the end.
